Perseverance - Day 16 of my Early Morning Walking

Perseverance - Day 16 of my Early Morning Walking Challenge - I almost slept in due to not feeling well. I had a commitment for a 6:30 a.m. stepping workout then my early morning walk. When my alarm went off, my body wanted to stay in bed, to stay asleep, to stay in my comfort zone but my mind said “I can do it. I can do it. I might be slower but I will show up.” And I did. I got my stepping in and my walk. Rest came after but not back to bed. Had my lemon water, a good breakfast, and a cup of green tea. Got a few things done around the house including laundry. Took cold medicine, lozenges, more green tea, and ice cream (for sore throat). I was determined to get things done and also take care of myself.

If I slept in, if I didn’t do my stepping workout, if I didn’t go for my walk I would have regretted it. Regretted giving in, of staying in my comfort zone. I know because I’ve done it many times over the years. Giving myself a high five today 🖐️

Being retired (but not tired) for over six years, I slept in a lot. I didn’t set my alarm and when I did I turned it off. I’ve tried many times to just get up with my alarm including Mel Robbins’ 5-Second Rule (5-4-3-2-1 and get up). It didn’t work for me as my mindset needed to change. Working 35 years and then not having to go to work, not having to get up for work became my mindset. So doing this walking challenge has been rewarding in many ways. First and foremost it has reset my mindset. Walking in the morning is a must for me now. I’m 62 now and want to enjoy each day; from morning to night. Waking up in the morning is a gift.

Morning Beauty 🌅

Walking in nature is so soothing and inspiring. Take yourself out for an early morning walk and energize your mood for the day. Stay in the moment, observe the beauty of nature all around you. Do you hear, see the birds? Do you feel a breeze on your face? See the trees, leaves, bushes, and branches all around? Do you see, feel, the sun on your face? Take a deep slow breath in and a slow breath out. Do this several times; deep slow breath in and slow breath out. Closing your eyes and say to yourself over and over “today is a great day, life is beautiful”. Open your eyes and take in the beauty of nature. The beauty of the sun rising again, of another beautiful day.

Early Morning Walking Challenge

Challenging myself to rise early every day to go for a walk. I normally sleep in and miss the morning beauty. Two days now. Hoping to make this a new habit. A new routine. See I always dreaded getting up early because I had to get up to go to work. But I’ve been retired for 6 1/2 years. I slept in a lot the first year but then that became my habit. I’ve tried many times to change that habit but never lasted. This week, with the help of my son, I am waking up early and getting that walk in. We have a beautiful sunrise every day and I don’t want to miss out on life’s beauty.
